Dynamic Configuration of Conferencing Applications using Pattern-Matching Multicast
نویسنده
چکیده
Multimedia conferencing systems are usually large, complex software systems. We describe a local control architecture and communication protocols called pattern-matching multicast (PMM) that allow media agents, controllers and auxiliary applications such as media recorders and management proxies to be tied together into a single conference application. Unlike other systems, control of a single conference can be shared between several controllers. Each medium can be handled by one or more independent media agents. Parts of the system have been implemented using an IP-multicast-based audio conferencing tool (NeVoT). The communicating applications disseminate state and control information through a distributor. The distributor mainly limits distribution of messages based on expressed interest of other applications, thus implementing an application-level, receiver-driven local multicast. It also automatically starts applications as needed. The same inter-application protocol was also implemented using IP multicast restricted to the local host and can be based on other inter-process messaging services such as ToolTalk.

متن کاملControl Protocol for the Dynamic Configuration of Multimedia Conferencing Applications
This memo describes a protocol for the exchange of control information between conference controllers and media agents. It is meant mainly for use within a single host or a local area network. The protocol messages can be delivered in a variety of ways, including local IP multicast.
متن کاملA Survey on Multicast Routing Approaches in Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) which mediates the broadband Internet access, have been recently received many attentions by the researchers. In order to increase capacity in these networks, nodes are equipped with multiple radios tuned on multiple channels emerging multi radio multi-channel WMNs (MRMC WMNs). Therefore, a vital challenge that poses in MRMC WMNs is how to properly assign channels ...
متن کاملEnabling Conferencing Applications on the Internet using an Overlay Multicast Architecture
In response to the serious scalability and deployment concerns with IP Multicast, we and other researchers have advocated an alternate architecture for supporting group communication applications over the Internet where all multicast functionality is pushed to the edge. We refer to such an architecture as End System Multicast. While End System Multicast has several potential advantages, a key c...
متن کاملMessage-Based API for the Dynamic Configuration of Multimedia Conferencing Applications
The control of multimedia conferencing, covering, among others, the distribution of state information, floor control, voting, membership, have been discussed in a number of papers; a range of proposals have been implemented, ranging from highly structured “traditional” multimediasystems such as MMC and JVTOS [1] to “loosely coupled” systems such as the Internet multicast tools (MBONE tools). Ex...
